A challenging opening hole. The undulating fairway slopes to the right (once over the marker post), usually resulting with an approach shot to the green from semi rough. Mid to short iron to a large green-be happy with a five to start.

Short but deceptive hole, positioning from the tee is essential. The approach shot to the green is fraught with danger, with a deep pot bunker waiting for the under hit shot and out of bounds behind the green ready for the over ambitious.

First of the par threes. From the tee the view looking up the Severn valley is fantastic especially in the autumn. This hole generally plays shorter than you think due to the elevated tee. Plenty of bunkers are waiting for the wrong club choice. Choose your club wisely.

For the longer hitters this short par five gives a chance to make the green in two. Don't be fooled - a smallish green with a hogs back running across the middle, can ruin the thought of an eagle and leave you with just a par.

A testing tee shot. Just a straight one is required no more no less! From the middle of the fairway you will have mid to short iron approach to a long green with small plateau at the back guarded by bunkers either side.

A delightful and picturesque hole running down the side of the River Severn. Trees left, river right-for the longer hitters a little more room on the right but be careful. For the shorter hitters use the left to right slopes of the fairway for an extra 20 yards roll. Positioning on the green is vital, a large hump (the sleeping elephant) can catch you out when you least expect.

The second of our short par fives. This hole continues up the bank of the River Severn. From the back tees, if you can hit it long and high, go straight over the top of the large oak. This will set you up with an opportunity to reach the green in two with a hybrid or long iron. If this is not an option you will have to go around, navigating between the oak and the river bank.

A long par 4, stroke index 2. Several mature trees and two ditches meander along and across the fairway. A tactical play on this hole can help avoid disaster and reward you with a great par. Lay up short of the first ditch and this will leave a wood or a long iron over a second ditch to a generous green and landing area. The big hitters can try and fly the first ditch at 260 yards to leave a mid to short iron, do so at your own risk!

The second of our par threes. A little gem! A wide but narrow undulating green, which is well guarded by several bunkers at the front and out of bounds at the back. Once on the green your putting skills will be severely tested on this undulating green.

Dogleg par 5. Use the natural right to left contours of the fairway to take the ball to the corner of the dogleg. A wood or a long iron should do it. Fly the two large fairway bunkers and watch the ball shoot forwards towards the green, hopefully setting you up for an easy birdie chance.

Long, straight and narrow is the best way to describe this par 5, the longest hole on the course. Two very straight shots will leave you pleased to see the green. An accurate approach is required to avoid the green side bunkers. Five is always a good score.

A charming par 5, the last of our holes next to the River Severn. A good drive tempts many golfers to go for the green in two. Large trees and scrub on the left hand side of the green wait for the wayward shot. Miss these hazards and you will be rewarded with a simple approach or putt.

Long par 3. Fly it all the way or land it short and run it on- either way works. Make sure you avoid the large bunker that runs from the front right all the way down the right side. Make sure you leave yourself an uphill putt as the green slopes quite severely from back to front. A 3 is always a good score.

This is a marmite hole you either love it or hate it. A demanding hole, with out of bounds all the way down the left and lots of trees right. Generally a firm fairway, land the ball centre left and the ball will shoot forward with extra roll leaving only a short iron to the green.

Last of the par 3s. A long thin green which is protected by a bunker on the right and a deep bunker on the left. The green slopes excessively from left to right so avoid being right of the flag. A potential card wrecker!

This undulating finishing hole needs to be treated with respect. Hit the tee shot to the right side of the fairway and the contours will send the ball to the left. Hit the ball too long and left and the ball will run into trouble. A blind shot over the hill landing the ball at the front will usually feed the ball down to the middle of the green. Good powers of mental concentration are now called for, as many other golfers on the patio will be watching your every move usually with a beer in hand!
